We’re committed to operating our lottery and raffles responsibly, so they are a fun way for you to support Hospiscare but never have a detrimental effect.

It’s unlikely that you find yourself here because of an addiction problem caused by lotteries, but if you are susceptible to gambling addiction, please consider alternative ways to support Hospiscare, such as making a regular gift.

Things to remember when gambling

While most people gamble within their means, for some, gambling can become a problem. It may help to remember that:

  • Lotteries should be entertaining and a fun way to support the charity and not seen as a way to make money.
  • Only spend what you can afford and without the expectation of winning.
  • Always avoid chasing losses.
  • Our Social Responsibility Policy is available by request from lottery@hospiscare.co.uk

If some of the following signs are present, it is likely that a gambling problem exists:

  • Gambling behaviour is criticised by others.
  • Lying to cover up the amount gambled or the time spent doing it, or to source money for gambling or to pay gambling debts.
  • Gambling in response to arguments, frustrations, or disappointments.
  • Gambling alone for prolonged periods or staying away from work/college to gamble.
  • Gambling until the last penny is gone.
  • After losing, feeling you must try to win back the losses as soon as possible, or feeling lost or in despair after running out of money or depressed because of gambling.

If you have a history of gambling addiction, you may wish to consider self-exclusion from our lottery. This means you ask us to exclude you from being able to purchase lottery entries for a minimum period of 6 months. During this time, we will not send you any lottery marketing material and you won’t be permitted to purchase a lottery entry from us. To self-exclude from the Hospiscare lottery, please complete this form.
