What's changing?

From Friday 4th October 2024…

Why are we making these changes?

You may have seen some of the news reports earlier this year regarding the discussions between Hospiscare and the Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB) on the low level of funding we receive from them compared to other hospices.

For 2024/25 we are receiving a 15% contribution towards the cost of providing our specialised palliative care – far short of the national average of 27% that other hospices receive, leaving Hospiscare with a £2.5 million deficit.

As a result, we must find ways to raise more funds to cover the increasing costs of delivering our services in the local community.

The Hospiscare Lottery started in May 2000, when a loaf of bread was 52p* and and a pint of beer was £2.07*. Our £1 ticket price no longer stretches as far as it used to. 24 years of cost increases has meant that less is going towards the care of our patients and their families, so for the first time we have taken the difficult decision to increase it to £2. We have also taken the opportunity to review our prize structure which has been the same since we launched, and introducing a roll-over.

From 4th October 2024

Win up to £5000

with our new Rollover prize

*If not won, the £250 will roll-over to the next week, and accumulate up to a maximum of £5000 – when it is guaranteed to be won.

FAQs

The amount we spend each year on prizes has not changed, but we have re-structured them based on feedback from our regular players.

The top prize remains at £1000, but the other prizes have been replaced by a bigger 2nd prize and a roll-over prize which can reach £5000.

Unlike the 1st and 2nd prizes, which are guaranteed to be won every week, our lottery system will also select a random entry as the Roll-over prize winner. This entry may be a ‘dummy’ entry, in which case the prize is carried over to the next week and added to the roll-over pot. If the Roll-over prize is not won after 19 weeks, it is guaranteed to be won by a lucky player in the 20th week.

You do not need to do anything. We will amend the amount of your Direct Debit payment after notifying you of the change.

If you wish to continue paying by standing order, you will need to notify your bank of the new amount. This will be 2x your normal payment.

You can use this opportunity switch to Direct Debit. Please use the form in the letter we sent you, or you can do it online.

We will notify you in the usual way when your next payment becomes due. Please note, this will be sooner than usual if you have credit on your Lottery account beyond 4th October.

Our lottery software will use any credit over £2 in your lottery account to enter your chance(s) into consecutive weekly draws, therefore you will not be entered in to any further draws when your credit falls below £2.
